About

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through its Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), supports countries in developing and implementing innovative financial solutions to address the funding gap for biodiversity conservation. BIOFIN provides technical support to assess biodiversity financing needs, review existing expenditure, identify financing opportunities and develop strategies to mobilise resources for nature. The initiative operates in more than 130 countries, helping governments translate biodiversity commitments into practical financing solutions.

In Kenya, BIOFIN was officially launched on 21 April 2026 by UNDP Kenya and the Government of Kenya, marking an important step towards mobilising resources to protect the country's natural capital and advance sustainable development.

As a Strategic Partner of the 5th EIK International Environmental Conference and Expo 2026, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through its Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), contributes to advancing dialogue on innovative financing solutions for biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability and climate resilience. Held under the theme “Climate Financing Frontiers 2026: Unlocking Capital for a Climate-Resilient Future,” the conference brings together environmental professionals, policymakers, financial institutions, investors and development partners to exchange knowledge, strengthen collaboration and opportunities. This explore innovative partnership financing underscores the importance of mobilising financial resources and technical expertise to advance biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and a climate-resilient future.
