Vihiga County

Vihiga County Government, through the Department of Environment, Water, Energy, Natural Resources and Climate Change, is committed to environmental conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the sustainable management of natural resources. The County has implemented several initiatives, including the restoration of Maragoli Hills, rehabilitation and protection of community forests, school greening programs, and conservation of wetlands and water catchment areas. It also promotes climate resilience through community water projects and locally led adaptation initiatives.

In sustainable waste management, Vihiga County has partnered with M-Taka Waste Solutions Limited to strengthen waste segregation, recycling, stakeholder capacity-building, and the development of a Material Recovery Facility to support a circular economy. Through these initiatives, the County continues to advance ecosystem restoration, community participation, responsible resource management, and sustainable development.
